Determining which acrylic you need
Ordering Your Acrylic |
Our trained
staff is ready to review the information you provide in order to determine the
proper acrylic for your bed.
When should I replace my
tanning bed acrylics?
·
Acrylics
should obviously be replaced when they are broken, especially if the crack is
large enough to either pinch a tanner, or break completely and further damage
your tanning unit.
·
Small
scratches on your acrylic which feel somewhat like sandpaper and are called
"Crazing" are evidence that the acrylic has exceeded its usable life. This
crazing blocks some of the UV rays and significantly reduces the tanning power
of your bed, even with new lamps.
·
One of the
biggest mistakes of tanning bed owners is waiting for their acrylics to break
before replacing them. Even if your acrylic appears to be in perfect shape, over
a period of time it will begin to block a percentage of the UV light. Most
acrylics should be replaced every 1500-3000 hours. The best way to test the UV
transmission of your acrylics is to purchase a
light meter.
Take a reading with acrylic on. Then, take a second reading with the acrylic
off. If the readings show a difference of 20% or more, the acrylics need
replacing.
What
information do I need when ordering my tanning bed acrylics?
-
You’ll need paper, pencil and flexible metal tape measure.
-
Take accurate acrylic
measurements. Remove the acrylic from the tanning bed and stand it on end.
IMPORTANT:
Since the measurement you give identifies accurately your replacement shield, it
is very important to give us as TRUE a measurement as possible. The only way to
measure is by using a metal tape measure (cloth or vinyl measurement tools can
stretch causing inaccurate measurements!). You may be unable to determine all
of the information requested below. In that case, provide as much information
as possible. The more information we have, the more quickly we can determine
the proper acrylic.
-
Take the acrylic
completely out of the unit.
-
With a METAL tape
measure, measure the width around the back side of the acrylic (the side
closest to the lamps). Be exact. Do not round up or down. We prefer that
you get within 1/16".
-
Measure the length
in the same manner.
-
In some cases, you
will need to measure the width of any special taping. For instance, some
acrylics have gray or white tape at the head and foot of the acrylic to
disguise lamp holders or other inner workings of the tanning unit. This
is especially true for the canopy acrylics of units with facial tanners.
Make any notations concerning the specifics of the taping pattern.
-
If your acrylic
has any type of special notches or holes, please notate the specific
location of these features.
-
Incorrect
measuring may cause you to receive an ill-fitting acrylic.
-
Write down the
manufacturer, make/style, model number, year and number of bulbs in your
bed.
-
Brief description of
your bed's features, i.e., number of facial lamps, taping pattern, and
masking color -- gray, white, none.
-
Type of acrylic to be
replaced: curved, molded, V-bend, 2 bend, 3 bend, or 4 bend (see image
below).
-
Which
acrylic are you replacing --- bench (bottom) or canopy (top)? If both,
provide information for each acrylic – top and bottom. Keep in mind that if
ordering both acrylics at the same time, we can usually give you a price
discount.

How do I place my tanning bed acrylic order?
·
Once you
have given us the information required we will determine the appropriate acrylic
and its cost. We will advise you of this by email within 24 hours (not
including weekends and holidays). We will also tell you how to place your
acrylic order. We accept all major credit/debit cards (we do not ship COD).
What will I be charged for shipping?
·
With rare
exception, shipping of your acrylic is FREE to the lower 48 states! In the
unusual circumstance where shipping costs may apply, we will advise you before
we process the order.
What can I do to prolong the life of my acrylics?
·
To prevent
premature cracking, make sure that your bed has all of the acrylic supports
properly installed. Inspect them to make sure that they are not loose or
cracked.
·
Use
disinfectant and cleaners that are acrylic safe. Most home cleaning products are
damaging to acrylics.
·
Clean and
polish your acrylics regularly with a system such as Novus Plastic Polish. It
comes in three steps: Step 1) cleans and prepares the acrylic surface for
polishing, Step 2) removes haziness and fine scratches, and Step 3) removes
deeper scratches. Using this system will prevent build up, remove scratches, and
help prolong the life of your acrylics. Novus Plastic Polish can be purchased at our Tanning Bed Cleaner and Polish page.
·
Make sure
that all of your internal cooling fans are working. Defective fans can cause hot
spots in your tanning unit. In a worse case scenario, this can cause unnecessary
warping of your acrylics.
·
Do not allow
use of tanning products that are not designed for use in indoor tanning
equipment.
Care /
Maintenance:
Many factors such as heat, weight and tanning bed lotions can add to the
decrease in performance of your acrylics. Proper maintenance can deepen your
tan.
Disclaimer:
The selection of the proper acrylic is based on the information and measurements
you provide. Therefore, in the case of an acrylic that does not fit, no returns
or refunds are permitted.
